    Description

A classic early twentieth century primitive fully rigged wooden ship model complete with cloth sails, charming carved figurehead, sailor at the helm, and a raised figure "Andrew Jackson NY" sternboard. A wonderful, early homemade and folky depiction of great detail, whimsy and charm of the famous American clipper ship built by Irons&Grinnel in Mystic ,Ct. in 1855. It is a large model measuring 40" in length, 31" high, with sails approximately 10 1/2" wide. Condition is very good overall - structurally fine, rigging mostly also fine, and the heavy cotton sails fine also, except for the discoloring of the bottom sail at the back. Being sold from our large collection of American folk art acquired over many years due to downsizing at retirement. Because of the large size and fragile character of this piece, unfortunately we can only offer local pickup at our easily reached North Jersey area near the intersection of Routes 80 & 287. I have had a great deal of interest in this piece and could have sold it several times if I was able to ship, but am just unable to do that. But just a word about possible pickup during the present NJ easing Covid situation. These large items are kept in my basement and would be easily accessible through the garage with large turn around driveway. Could even be brought outside on a table for a no contact pick-up. The possibility even exists of a delivery to a reasonably distanced location, given my need to find a good home for this exciting piece of maritime folk art soon. Hope you will consider this wonderful piece and forward any reasonable offers.
